at Riverside Dental Group will offer you tips to bear in mind if you find yourself with a dental emergency.
A Dire Infection of the Tooth
Tooth abscesses are potentially serious infections at the root of the tooth. Infection can begin in periodontal pockets which result from severe gum disease (periodontitis). If you have a sudden and persistent toothache that is accompanied by a swollen spot on your gums that resembles a pimple, call your Riverside family dentists. When abscesses are not treated quickly, the infection can spread to other parts of the body and tissue damage and tooth loss can occur.
Broken or Chipped Teeth
If you are the victim of an injury that breaks one or several of your teeth, try to locate the tooth fragments, if possible. Should you have bleeding, pressing clean gauze with gentle pressure for roughly 10 minutes to the injury can stop it. For swelling, try a cold compress. If your injury happens when your regular dentist is not open, find the closest emergency dentist. Do your best to secure a ride so you won’t have to worry about driving in a state of shock.
Detached Teeth
Again, retrieving the dislodged tooth is essential so that your dentist can attempt to reattach the tooth. Rinse the detached tooth gently with water. You can temporarily store the tooth in milk, or a small container of water mixed with a pinch of table salt. Try to arrive at your emergency dentist within an hour. This will be your best chance for returning your natural tooth to its socket.
