When you want orthodontic work but you have that nagging feeling in the back of your mind that … maybe I’m too old … it can put a bit of a damper on all of your hopes and dreams. The good news is that we are the first to say it is absolutely not something you’ve “aged” out of. Instead, aligning your smile is always a good idea! In fact, you may be surprised to learn that a smile that’s straight actually enjoys tons of benefits like dental hygiene that’s easier to perform effectively, a lower chance of experiencing bruxism, and more. As for your questions you’ve been worrying about, let’s get them answered.
Questions and Answers
Question: I feel like I’m probably too old for orthodontic work. Are my teeth too cemented in place for you to move them into alignment?
Answer: Not a chance! We can still shift your smile into alignment, which is why we encourage you to come in for a consultation as soon as you have time. The sooner we begin your treatment, the sooner you’ll have the smile you’ve been hoping for (and those exciting benefits we mentioned for your oral health).
Question: I feel like I’ll look ridiculous wearing braces. Can you make me feel better about being an adult undergoing orthodontic work?
Answer: First of all, it’s much more common than you might think. You are certainly in good company when it comes to the amount of adult orthodontic patients we see. It’s also important to remember that we offer systems that most people won’t realize you’re wearing (like clear aligner trays), so you won’t feel like it’s obvious.
Question: What if I’ve already had orthodontic work done in the past and I don’t really need a lot of movement to improve my smile? Will I still need a full set of braces?
Answer: If your previously straight smile has shifted, that’s fine. We can help! In most cases, we will likely provide you with MTM aligners, which offer minor movement for the small correction you need.
