riverside braces

When you have serious misalignment, this could impact the overall health and function of your smile, along with causing issues with overall smile beauty too. With this traditional orthodontic system, our team can offer a solution that straightens teeth and improves oral health. In today’s blog, your team at Dental Associates of Riverside in CA talks about braces.

When Do I Need Braces?

Braces are used to correct teeth that are crooked, crowded, or overlapping, shifting them into proper position to offer a straighter smile and better esthetics. We recommend this for more severe cases, as otherwise your uneven teeth make thorough brushing and flossing difficult and in turn, means a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease. You could also be more vulnerable to TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). To offer healthier smiles and better esthetics, we can correct your uneven teeth with our traditional braces.

Traditional Orthodontics

With braces, our team will gently attach metal brackets to the front facing sides of each tooth. We then connect a piece of an arch wire to the bracket with a band. The bands can be colorful or clear, depending on your preferences. We may also connect the upper and lower arch with bands as needed. During your visits, we will adjust tension in the arch wire to begin shifting the teeth into proper position. For some, an even smile is possible in as little as two years, so even severe cases of misalignment can be addressed.

Taking an Esthetically-Friendly Approach

Our team could also take a more esthetically-friendly approach. We could create your brackets from gold if you prefer, or from a clear material to make them much less visible. This means they have less of an impact on your appearance, and many of our teen and adult patients prefer this option. We can talk about which is right for you!

Invisalign®

While braces are often the best choice for more severe misalignment, our team could offer a nearly invisible option for more minor cases. Instead of metal brackets and wires, Invisalign® uses a series of clear and custom aligners to correct your teeth. These are also removable and easy to clean and maintain!
