In our last blog, we looked at how the loss of a tooth or a few in a row could benefit from a bridge. But what if your tooth loss is more complex? What if you have multiple gaps spread out across your arch? In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about our partial dentures.
The Risks of Complex Tooth Loss
Complex tooth loss means you have lost several of your natural teeth, but gaps are now spread out across your arch. Too complex to be treated with a bridge alone, but you still have enough natural teeth in place that a full denture isn’t necessary. These cases still need replacement, so you can feel good about your smile. Not only that, but you can avoid the complications of untreated tooth loss, such as misalignment, issues eating and speaking, and even related disorders like TMD and bruxism. We want to help you smile with confidence again!
Creating Your Partial Denture
To begin, we will carefully examine your smile. We want to know the causes of your missing teeth, so if we need to manage issues like periodontitis, we can begin right away. Our team also wants detailed images and measurements so we can design and craft your new denture in a lab setting. The partial will contain new ceramic teeth that are designed to blend with your smile. These will be set in an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of natural gum tissue. When in place, these new teeth will fit in the gaps in your smile, and metal clasps will attach to natural teeth to firmly secure your new denture in place.
Protecting Your Smile
You will need to soak and clean your dentures regularly to ensure it can last for years to come. But you also need to maintain good oral hygiene to protect your remaining teeth, such as daily brushing and flossing and visits for checkups and cleanings every six months. If you have any questions about how we address complicated cases of tooth loss with a partial, or if you would like to learn more about our custom prosthetics, then contact our team today to learn more.
