A dental checkup and cleaning visit is truly an appointment that is for everyone, from kids as young as two to adults and seniors, and everyone in between. With a visit for a general dental exam, you can start your journey to better oral health. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about our exams and cleanings.
Dental Exams
When you sit down for a dental exam, our team will use digital x-rays and intraoral cameras to quickly and comfortably obtain clear and detailed images of your smile. In addition to the surfaces of your teeth and gums, we will look at tooth roots, the jawbone itself, and other important oral structures. This enables us to make a diagnosis with precision and accuracy! If we find areas of concern, we can then plan a treatment to bring relief and protect your smile. By attending these every six months, we can catch serious problems in the earliest stages. For kids, this has the added benefits of helping them become accustomed to the dentist, so they are less likely to develop dental anxiety, and we can help instill good oral health habits too.
Cleaning Your Teeth
Once we complete the exam portion, we will clean your teeth. Even if you brush and floss, plaque and tartar buildup can still accumulate on the surfaces of your teeth and along the gum line. If left alone, this buildup could lead to tooth decay, infection, gingivitis, and even gum disease. But! With a dental cleaning, our team will use an ultrasonic scaling device to gently remove the plaque and tartar from the teeth. We then employ a manual pick for the stubborn portions. The last step is to polish your teeth for a brighter appearance, and to help limit how much plaque and tartar can form on the surfaces of your teeth before your next visit!
Advice for Better Homecare Routines
We also want to ask about your oral hygiene routine, so we can make sure you are brushing and flossing properly, protecting your smile from home in between these visits. If you have any questions about these visits, or if you would like to schedule your next checkup and cleaning, then contact our team!
