When Kids Need Orthodontic Treatment

As we mentioned above, we could see them as young as age seven for orthodontic concerns. We will carefully examine the smile to assess the state of their smile. At this age, there is a mix of permanent and baby teeth, so we can better assess the risks to their smile. Our team can then offer interceptive orthodontics to help guide smile growth and limit alignment severity.
Space Maintainers
If your child loses a baby tooth early, this could cause nearby teeth to drift and upset how permanent teeth can arrive, which then leads to more severe misalignment. But our team can help with a space maintainer. This could be a fixed or removable appliance that is connected to the teeth on each side of the gap in your smile. The appliance then keeps the teeth from drifting and ensures the area is open so that permanent teeth can arrive without complication.
Retainers
Our team could also help guide the growth and alignment of the smile with a retainer, an oral appliance that is worn daily. The appliance could be fixed in place, which means it cannot be removed, or it could be removable, at which point we can discuss how to clean and soak it periodically. Our team will also monitor the smile with regular visits to the office. As your kids reach the teen years, we could shift treatment to braces or aligners, completing their smiles so they start adulthood with even results!
