When we see people with more severe cases of dental misalignment, we want to help straighten their smiles. With treatment options like braces, we can take on more severe cases. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about traditional and esthetic braces!
The Need for Braces
When do you need to wear braces? We recommend these for people who have dental misalignment. If you have crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, this can make brushing and flossing difficult and increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Misalignment could also lead to bite imbalance and strain your jaw joints, a complication linked to TMJ disorder and even chronic teeth grinding. People could also feel self-conscious about their smile and this could have a negative impact on overall quality of life. If you have a more substantial case of misalignment, then this could offer optimal results!
Traditional Options
With a traditional option, our team could connect metal brackets to the front of each tooth. For each arch, we then connect a portion of a thin arch wire to the brackets with bands. These could be clear or the patient could choose a favorite color. We could also use bands to connect the upper and lower arches as part of the process. During visits to the office, we will adjust tension in the arch wire. The teeth then shift, with each adjustment bringing the smile closer to optimal alignment. The process takes about wop years, as the jawbone needs to reform around the new positions of the teeth. In addition to our traditional orthodontics, we also have an esthetic option that patients could choose!
Esthetic Orthodontics
With this option, we still use brackets and arch wires, but these are made from a clear material or possibly gold, so they appear more attractive than traditional stainless-steel orthodontics. There are no differences in the treatment process, these simply look different than the traditional options. If you have any questions about our braces or about how we correct misalignment, or if you are ready to schedule an orthodontic consultation and start the treatment process yourself, then contact our team today to learn more and get started!
