corona pediatric dentistryPediatric dentistry allows our team to help kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens, enjoy good oral health. With the right steps, this can help spare your kids issues like tooth decay and even gingivitis. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how we help safeguard little smiles with pediatric dentistry.

Dental Exams and Cleanings for Kids

We always want to see kids every six months for a dental exam, starting as young as age two. A routine exam allows us to monitor little smiles as they grow and change, so we can catch serious issues in their earliest stages, addressing them before they cause premature tooth loss and misalignment, as well as painful symptoms. We conduct the exam with a gentle approach using advanced digital imaging, and can create a treatment plan personalized for their smiles.

We also help protect little smiles with a dental cleaning, a procedure that involves clearing away the plaque and tartar from their teeth with an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool. The process only takes a few minutes and helps brighten and improve your child’s smile.

Fluoride Treatments

Our team can also provide preventive treatments to help limit the risk of tooth decay in their smiles. During their routine checkup visits, we can apply fluoride to the surfaces of the teeth in a varnish form, which strengthens the outer enamel. This can even help protect portions that are weakened and likely to develop cavities without attention. The process only takes a few seconds, and kids just need to avoid food and drink for about a half hour. We also suggest using a fluoride toothpaste when they brush to help strengthen the enamel and keep cavities at bay.

Dental Sealants

We know that even if kids brush and floss, this could be difficult for the rear teeth, which are hard to reach. Which means the molars are more likely to develop tooth decay. But with dental sealants, we will apply a thin layer of acrylic to the teeth that coats them and prevents particles of sugar and starch from being caught between them, lowering the risk of cavities. Applying these sealants only takes a few seconds and as with fluoride, children just need to avoid food and drink for about 30 minutes.
