For treatment in only one visit, our team can secure a dental filling. Made from material that is strong and durable, this will also blend with the tooth too. In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about how we treat cavities with a filling and keep your smile intact and comfortable!
The Causes of Cavities and Toothaches
How does a cavity form in your smile? The outside of your tooth is coated in a thin but strong layer of tooth enamel. The material protects the tooth, but factors like a diet high in sugar and starch and poor brushing and flossing habits can weaken and erode the outer enamel. This is done through the layers of plaque and tartar that accumulate, which also lead to a higher risk of gum disease and gum recession, which exposes root structure to also create cavities.
The tooth begins to hurt as the decay grows and spreads, and without treatment you risk infection and even the loss of your tooth. But we can treat the cavity and prevent infection with a lifelike filling, a process that only takes one visit to complete and ensures a lifelike appearance.
Treatment with a Filling
To begin, we will use digital x-rays to peer inside the tooth and assess the severity of your decay. We then plan the treatment in detail. Our team will next numb the tooth and remove the decay from it. We then clean the tooth and apply the composite resin filling material. A metal-free material, this is safe for all ages and provides a natural appearance. We even use this in cosmetic bonding procedures to mask stains and repair damage to the tooth.
We apply the filling in several layers and then sculpt and mold the tooth while the composite resin cures under a light. The last step is to polish the tooth for a brighter appearance. The entire process takes one sitting and stops your toothache!
Crowns and More
If you have a more severe case of decay, or an infection, we could use a root canal to remove compromised interior tissues, and then cap the tooth with a custom crown, one that looks natural.
