Do you have uneven smiles? If you have misalignment, you need treatment to shift your teeth and protect your smile from complications. We have an array of possible solutions for kids, teens, and adults. In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about our orthodontic treatment options.
The Need for Orthodontic Treatment
When you have teeth that are crooked, crowded, and that overlap one another, you should consider orthodontic treatment. By correcting your uneven teeth, you improve your ability to brush and floss and lower your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. This could restore balance to your bite too, and lower the chances of TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding) developing. You could also feel more confident in your smile, ready to show it off to the world!
Braces
For teens and adults with more severe cases of misalignment, we could help with braces. These are metal brackets and wires connected to the teeth. We adjust tension in the wires to begin shifting the teeth into proper positions, often requiring about two years to complete treatment.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® takes a very different approach. Instead of metal brackets and wires, we can help teens and adults with a system that uses a series of clear plastic aligners. These are practically invisible and reserved for more minor cases, and could offer results in as little as one year. They are also removable before meals, special occasions, or brushing and flossing your teeth.
Interceptive Orthodontics
With interceptive orthodontics, we can help kids as young as age seven! These are designed to guide the growth of the smile to ensure proper tooth eruption and limit the severity of malalignment, so kids require less time with braces or aligners in the future. We could use retainers or space maintainers to help little smiles with misalignment.
Retainers
In addition to being used in interceptive orthodontics for kids, retainers could help teens and adults too. Following treatment with braces or Invisalign®, we could use them to keep the new positions of your teeth intact as the jawbone gradually grows around them, so they don’t revert back. In addition, we could use them to help adults with very minor cases of misalignment!
