If you have uneven teeth then you understand how this can impact your appearance. However, you may not be aware that crooked or crowded teeth can increase your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and even jaw joint strain, which often leads to TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding). Fortunately, there are a number of options available for correcting misalignment.
Straighten Teeth in Riverside, CA
- Braces: One of the most common forms of orthodontic treatment, braces consists of metal brackets applied to the front of the teeth. Arch wires are then used to connect the brackets. Through periodic adjustments, the doctor will use tension to gently move the teeth in optimal placement.
- Lingual Braces: Like braces, patients will wear brackets n their teeth that are connected with arch wires. The difference is the brackets and wires will be on the back of the teeth, practically invisible. This option uses lower forces and many people prefer the fact that no one can see their orthodontics.
- Invisalign: Instead of metal orthodontics, patients will wear a series of BPA-free plastic aligners. The aligners are clear and comfortable and will be worn daily for between 20 and 23 hours. About every two weeks patient will upgrade to a new set as their smile is corrected in about a year. While many people prefer the appearance of clear braces this option works best for patients over the age of 15 who have minor alignment issues. Clear braces can also be removed before meals or when brushing/flossing teeth.
- Ceramic Braces: Once again, patients will wear brackets and arch wires to improve the appearance of the smile. However, the ceramics are clear and provide a less noticeable option.
