When you have a missing tooth, or as many as three in a row, then you need a prosthetic to fill the gap. We can use a dental bridge to address this gap and offer results that look natural and blend with your smile. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how we bridge the gap in your smile!
The Causes and Dangers of Missing Teeth
Why causes tooth loss? We could lose teeth due to a severe cavity or infection that isn’t treated, or as a result of an injury to the face or jaw. The most common factor is periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease. When we lose teeth, even a single tooth, this could lead to issues with alignment. Misalignment not only changes your smile’s appearance, but causes trouble for oral health and bite function too. Missing teeth could also lead to issues with eating and speaking if the gap is large enough. Patients could also feel self-conscious about their appearance, and may even avoid social interactions, harming their overall quality of life. But we can help by addressing your tooth loss with a dental bridge.
Creating a Custom Prosthetic
The bridge will be custom-made for your smile, ensuring a comfortable fit, a balanced bite, and of course, a lifelike appearance. To get started, our team will numb the teeth on each side of the gap and remove structure from them. These are the abutment teeth. We then take detailed images and measurements of the abutment teeth and the gap, which we use in a lab setting to help design and fabricate your prosthetic. The bridge will contain one to three new teeth with crowns on each end. The ceramic we craft them from will be durable and color-matched to blend with your smile.
Attaching Your New Dental Bridge
Our team will check the fit and make any final adjustments before we attach the crown portions to the abutment teeth to secure your new teeth firmly in place. Your bridge can last about 10 to 15 years on average. If you have any questions about how we tackle tooth loss with dental prosthetics, then contact our team today.
