In recent blogs, we have talked about a variety of orthodontic treatments, including braces and even clear Invisalign® aligners. But what if you have a more minor case, or what if you want to keep your smile from shifting following treatment? In a situation like this, your Riverside Dental Group team can help with custom retainers! We want to help treat your poor alignment, or in some cases, keep your new results intact following treatment!
The Need for Custom Retainers
When do we prescribe a set for our patients? For young children, these can be an essential part of our interceptive orthodontics, providing a way to guide the growth of the smile and limit the severity of misalignment before they need braces or aligners later in life. For teens and adults, this can also help with more minor cases of misalignment. If you have completed treatment with braces, you may wear a retainer for a period to ensure your teeth stay in their new positions as the jawbone reforms around them.
Our Orthodontic Options
We have a few options available for our patients. With a traditional Hawley option, the retainer is made from acrylic and stainless steel. We also have invisible options made from clear materials. The orthodontics can be fixed in place or removable. For kids, we often recommend fixed to ensure the orthodontic appliance does not end up lost or misplaced.
Other Treatment Options
Along with our custom retainers, we have a number of other orthodontic treatments to help correct your smile. For kids as young as age seven, we can help with options like space maintainers, which can help keep smiles even if a tooth is lost prematurely. For teens and adults, we could offer traditional or esthetic braces for more severe cases, or Invisalign® clear aligners for more minor cases. If you have any questions about how we shift your smile with custom orthodontics, or if you would like to schedule an appointment today to learn more and start the treatment process, then contact our team today to learn more and get started!
