Do you have an uneven smile? If you do, or if you notice your child is developing misalignment, then consider seeing our team for treatment. With orthodontics, such as braces and even Invisalign®, your Riverside Dental Group team can help straighten uneven teeth and provide healthier smiles!
Dental Misalignment and Poor Oral Health
An uneven smile could develop due to complications with the growth of your jaw, which impacts how teeth erupt. Factors in childhood such as tongue thrusting and thumb sucking could alter alignment, as could the premature loss of baby teeth. In the teen and adult years, injury to the smile, the eruption of wisdom teeth, and the loss of your teeth could also alter your smile’s alignment.
Without treatment, this could provide places for sugar and starch particles to remain trapped, beyond the reach of a toothbrush or floss, so the risk of cavities and gum disease is much higher. The pressure on your bite balance from poor alignment could strain jaw joints to cause TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also feel embarrassed about your smile, which has a negative impact on your overall quality of life. But we can help correct misalignment with our orthodontics!
Braces
If you have a more severe case of misalignment, then our team could offer treatment with braces. We attach metal brackets to the front facing side of each tooth, and then connect them with a position of a thin arch wire. During periodic visits to the office, we will adjust tension in the arch wire to begin shifting the teeth into proper position, with optimal results available after about two years.
Invisalign®
For more minor cases, we could use the Invisalign® system. With this option, there are no metal braces. Instead, we will provide a series of clear and barely visible aligners that are worn daily, each set adjusting the position of your teeth until you can see straighter smiles in as little as one year.
Retainers
To help correct any shifts that happens following treatment with braces, or to address very minor cases, we could offer custom-made retainers, which can be fixed in place or removable.
Phase One Orthodontics
For young children, we could start treatment with space maintainers and retainers to help guide smile growth and prepare them for braces and aligners later in their teen years, limiting the impact of misalignment until then.
