Has it been a while since you’ve visited a dentist for professional care? Perhaps you have been receiving care for quite some time but you have never stopped to consider what we offer during a preventive care visit. Regardless of your current oral health (or the last time you received a checkup and cleaning), we invite you to become more familiar with the preventive visit – it’s something everyone needs to schedule once every six months for a healthy smile and fresh breath.
A Conversation
First, we want you to recognize that your preventive care visit is a wonderful time to learn more about your oral health. We will speak with you about what we see happening with your smile, while offering suggestions. We are also always pleased to field questions about anything related to your smile. Are you curious about which products to buy, how to care for your teeth and gums, why your jaw feels different, what to do about aligning your smile, or anything else? Please – just ask.
An Examination
One essential aspect of your preventive care visit is your dental checkup. This includes a thorough examination of your oral structures. You may assume that we will focus on looking for tooth decay and gingivitis (which we do seek out). However, there’s more to your oral health! We also look for signs of problems like bruxism and TMJ disorder, both of which we can treat with a comfortable approach.
A Dental Cleaning
The other key portion of your preventive visit is your dental cleaning. Through strategic, gentle, and thorough methods, we will remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from your teeth. In conjunction with your efforts at home, this helps safeguard your oral health from problems like tooth decay and gum disease.
